Description
Egy jelenet Walter M. Miller jr. "Hozsanna néked, Leibowitz!" c. regényből. A történet három részre van osztva, egy posztnukleáris földön játszódik, s ez a jelenet a harmadik rész vége felé.
Szerepel benne egy kétfejű paradicsomárus, Mrs Grales. A történet alatt ott téblábol a kolostor körül hatlábú kutyájával, eladogatja paradicsomait s noszogatja Dom Zerchi apátot, hogy az keresztelje meg második fejét, a szemét sose kinyitó, tulajdonosa életében részt nem vevő Rachelt. Mindezalatt közeledik a világ vége, a szerzetesek felkészülnek elhagyni a földet űrhajójukkal...
… és akkor Rachel mosolyog.
Úgy borsódzott annál a jelenetnél a hátam...

Eine Szene aus Walter M. Miller, jr.-s Roman "Lobgesang auf Leibowitz". Die Geschichte besteht aus drei Teilen, spielt auf einer postnuklearen Erde und diese Szene gegen Ende des Buches.
Es tritt darin eine zweiköpfige Tomatenverkäuferin, Mrs Grales, auf. Im Verlauf der Geschichte scharwenzelt sie mit ihrem sechsbeinigen Hund ums Kloster, verkauft ihre Tomaten und liegt dem Abt Dom Zerchi in den Ohren, er möge doch ihren zweiten, ihre Augen nie öffnenden, am Leben ihrer Besitzerin keinen Anteil nehmenden Kopf namens Rachel taufen. Währenddessen nähert sich das Ende der Welt und die Mönche treffen Vorbereitungen, um die Erde mit ihrem Raumschiff zu verlassen...
... und dann lächelt Rachel.
Ich bin bei der Szene schier gestorben vor Angst.
Ich kanns nur empfehlen.

A scene from Walter M. Miller jr.'s novel "A Canticle For Leibowitz". The story consists of three parts, takes part on a post-nuclear earth and this scene near the end of the third part.
Therein appears a two-headed tomato seller, Mrs Grales. In the course of the story she roams around the monastrey with her six-legged dog, sells her tomatoes and annoys the abbot Dom Zerchi to baptist her second head called Rachel which never opens her eyes and doesn't participate in her owner's life. Meanwhile the end of the world is approaching and the monks take preparations to leave earth with their spaceship...
... and then Rachel smiles.
That scene scared the living shit out of me.
I can only rcommend it.

Yes, it can definitely be read as a horror scene, appropriate of a real miracle. And still, it could very well be the abbot coming to peace with himself. Because we never found out if brother Joshua's ship scape this moment is left as our last true joy.
Nuclear panic fiction always messes me up!
